Pick TypeRacer if you want to race real people live; pick Presspace if you want to practise on your own and see why you are slow. TypeRacer turns typing into a live race against strangers or friends. Presspace has no live multiplayer, but it shows a heatmap of your misses after every test and has 26 typing games and a ghost of your best run to beat.

Where is TypeRacer better?
Racing real people. This is the whole point of TypeRacer, and Presspace does not do it. Joining a public race takes seconds, and a private track lets you send friends a link and race them directly. Nothing gets the adrenaline going like a real person edging past you in the last line.
Real text. Every race is a real passage with capitals and punctuation, closer to everyday writing than a list of common words.
Classrooms and history. TypeRacer has run since 2008, with a School Edition and a long-running community of racers.
Where is Presspace better?
Knowing what to fix. A race tells you whether you won. Presspace tells you why you were slow: a heatmap of the keys you missed, your slowest words, your Raw-Net Gap and a full replay. One click on a missed key starts a drill built on it.
Variety. Beyond the test there are 26 games, from Starfall, a 3D space shooter, to Nitro, a street race against three rival cars at fixed speeds, plus 25 challenges, lessons and code typing.
Test lengths. Need a 5 or 10 minute test for a job application? Presspace has them one click away, and an endurance figure on anything two minutes or longer.
Who should pick which?
- Pick TypeRacer if competition with real people keeps you coming back, or you want to race friends.
- Pick Presspace if you want to understand and fix your mistakes, prefer solo practice, or want games and lessons.
- Use both: race on TypeRacer, then drill your weak keys on Presspace.
Questions people ask
Does Presspace have multiplayer like TypeRacer?
No. Presspace has no live multiplayer. You can race a ghost of your own best run, race three pace bots and your ghost in Rally, or compete on the leaderboards and the Daily, where everyone types the same words. For live races against other people, TypeRacer is the better choice.
Is TypeRacer free?
Yes, racing on TypeRacer is free, and you can race as a guest without an account. It is supported by ads, and a paid Premium membership removes them and adds extras such as more cars and saved practice races.
Which is better for improving my typing speed?
Racing is motivating, but it does not tell you what to fix. Presspace shows which keys you miss and which words slow you down, and builds a drill from them in one click. Many typists use both: TypeRacer for the thrill, a test with analysis for the practice.
Why is my TypeRacer speed different from my Presspace speed?
TypeRacer races are real passages with capitals and punctuation, while a standard Presspace test uses common lowercase words. Punctuation and capitals slow almost everyone down. For a closer comparison, use the Presspace quote test.
