How do I get a typing certificate?
Take a 1 minute, 2 minute or 5 minute typing test on Presspace and let the clock run out. On the results screen, choose Get your certificate. It opens here with your result filled in. Type your name, then print it, save it as a PDF or download a PNG. No account and no payment.
What does a typing certificate show?
Your name, your net words per minute, your accuracy, the test length, the word language and the date. Net WPM counts only correctly typed words at five characters per word, the standard most typing tests and employers use. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were right first time. A verified certificate adds your raw WPM and a link anyone can open to check the run.
How can an employer verify a typing certificate?
A verified certificate carries a link, printed on the page, of the form presspace.org/typing-certificate/?id= followed by a run number. Opening it shows the same speed, accuracy, test and date straight from Presspace's records, with the typist's public name. The run was scored on our server from the keystrokes, not by the browser, so the number on paper can be checked against the one on the site.
Self-reported or verified: what is the difference?
A self-reported certificate is made in your browser from a test you just took, and it says so on the page. Anyone could edit one, so treat it as your own record. A verified certificate comes from a signed-in run on a verified leaderboard, where the server picks the words and scores the keystrokes. That is what makes the link worth opening.

Which test length should I take for a certificate?
Take the length the job advert asks for. If it does not say, a 1 minute test is the common benchmark, and a 2 minute test shows you can hold the pace. The 5 minute test is closest to real work: it shows whether your speed lasts, and your results screen tells you your Endurance Drop, how much speed you lose from the first minute to the last.
What is a good score for a typing certificate?
There is no single standard: each employer sets its own bar, and the job advert usually names it. Whatever the number, accuracy matters as much as speed, because a fast result full of mistakes reads badly on paper. Our guides to what counts as a good typing speed and typing tests for jobs go through it role by role.
Questions people ask
Is the typing certificate really free?
Yes. The test and the certificate are free, with no account, no paid upgrade and no limit on how many you make. Take the test again whenever you like and print the better result.
Do I need an account to get a typing certificate?
No. Without an account you get a self-reported certificate with your name, speed, accuracy and date. Signing in is only needed for a verified certificate, which has a link anyone can open to check the result.
Will an employer accept a typing certificate from Presspace?
That is up to the employer. Many are happy with a printed result for a form or a CV, and some run their own test on the day. A verified certificate helps, because the employer can open its link and see the run on Presspace instead of taking the paper on trust.
Can I get a typing certificate in another language?
Yes. The test runs in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian words, and the self-reported certificate states the language. Verified certificates come from the ranked tests, which use English words.
Why does the certificate show net WPM and not raw WPM?
Net WPM counts only correctly typed words, so mistakes cost you speed. It is the figure employers and most typing tests quote. The verified certificate shows raw WPM as well, so the gap between the two is visible.
How long does a verified certificate link work?
For as long as the run and your account exist and your profile stays public. If you make your profile private or delete your account, the link stops showing the result.
