Where is Keybr better?

Learning from zero. Keybr's method is the most rigorous we know of. It tracks the speed of every key, unlocks the next letter only when you have reached your target on the ones you have, and even forecasts how many lessons you need to reach your goal.

Languages and layouts. 34 languages and around 100 keyboard layouts, against our six languages.

Multiplayer and openness. Keybr has live multiplayer races, and its code is open source. Presspace has neither.

Where is Presspace better?

Real text and real tests. Keybr's pseudo-words are precise but odd to type. Presspace tests you on real words, quotes and code, at standard lengths from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, the kind employers and friends ask about.

Explaining a single run. Every result shows a heatmap of the keys you missed, your slowest words, a full replay, your Raw-Net Gap and, on longer tests, your Endurance Drop.

Fun. 26 typing games and 25 challenges. Practice that you look forward to is practice you actually do.

Who should pick which?

  • Pick Keybr if you are learning touch typing and want a strict, data-driven path, or you use an unusual layout.
  • Pick Presspace if you can already type and want to measure, understand and push your speed, ideally with some games along the way.
  • Use both: learn the layout on Keybr, then move to Presspace to build speed on real text.

Questions people ask

Is Keybr better than Presspace for learning to type?

For learning touch typing from scratch, Keybr's method is excellent: it starts with a few frequent letters and adds the next only when you are fast enough on the ones you have. Presspace has lessons and a letter-by-letter mode too, but its strengths are testing, analysis and games once you can already type.

Is Keybr free?

Yes. Keybr is free and open source. The free version shows ads, and a premium account, a one-off payment rather than a subscription, removes the ads and trackers.

Does Presspace have adaptive practice like Keybr?

Yes, in two places. Smart practice builds each round from the keys you miss most, and Learn to type letter by letter starts with a few letters and unlocks more as you get comfortable. Keybr's algorithm is more thorough, with per-key speed targets and a forecast of how many lessons you have left.

Why does Keybr use made-up words?

Its lessons generate pseudo-words that follow the letter patterns of your language, so it can drill exactly the letters you have unlocked. Real words would need letters you have not learned yet. Presspace uses real words in its tests and drills, which feels more natural but is less precise.
