Leaderboards

Who types fastest today

Every test, every game and every challenge has its own board. Sign in, play, and your run lands here a second later, next to your character.

How ranking works

There are two kinds of board. The verified boards are the Daily and the 15, 30, 60 and 120 second tests: English words at standard difficulty, no punctuation or numbers. When you are signed in, the words for these tests come from our server, and when the clock runs out your keystrokes go back to it. The server scores the run itself, using the same rules as the test: net words per minute from correctly typed words, accuracy from every keystroke.

Every other board is checked: the arcade, the training games, the challenges, word-count tests, long tests, quotes and code. Those games keep score in your browser, so the server checks each score against how long the run really took and against a ceiling for that board, and holds back anything that does not add up.

Each board keeps your best run for the period: today (midnight to midnight UTC), the last seven days, or all time. Runs under 75% accuracy are not ranked on the verified boards. Runs that are impossibly fast, arrive before the clock could have run out, or keep a rhythm no human hand keeps are held back for review instead of going on the board.

Champions

Champions adds it all up. Every top-ten place on every all-time board earns points, the way motor racing does: 25 for first, then 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1. Because every mode and game counts the same, the champion is whoever is good at the most things, not only the fastest pair of hands.

Nations

Nations ranks countries by the average of their ten fastest typists on the all-time 60 second board. Add your country to your profile and your runs count for it.

Leagues

The small shield next to a name is a league, from Rookie through Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Master to Grandmaster at 130 words per minute. It comes from your best verified 60 second, 2 minute or Daily run, so it only ever goes up.

The Daily

Every day at midnight UTC, one set of sixty seconds of words goes out to everyone. Play it as often as you like; your best of the day is the one that counts. Finish in the top three and you keep a medal on your profile. Yesterday's boards stay up, so you can step back through the days.

Characters

Every typist has a character: a small keycap creature shown next to their name on the boards and on their profile. Achievements and levels unlock new bodies, colours, faces, hats and backdrops, plus titles to wear under your name. Guests can dress one too; it follows you when you sign in.

Typing without an account

You never need an account to use Presspace. Everything works exactly as it does signed in, and your results stay in your browser. Signing in only adds the leaderboards, a public profile and sync across devices. You can make your profile private, or keep your runs off the public boards, whenever you like.
