You are a wizard with three spells, and every spell is a word. Type them fast and clean to get through a slime, a skeleton knight, a wraith, a stone golem and finally a dragon.
Your wizard stands on the left of a ruined arena and a monster waits on the right. Under the arena are three spell cards, each showing a word. Type the word on the Bolt card and a bolt of light arcs across and hits the monster. Type the Ward word and a shield bubble forms around you. Type the Heal word and you get health back. As soon as one is cast, that card gets a new word.
The cards never share a first letter, so the moment you type a letter the right card lights up and you can see exactly where you are in the word.
Every monster has a bar over its head that fills before it attacks. When it turns red and starts to flash, the hit is coming. If your Ward is up when it lands, the attack is blocked and part of the damage bounces back. If not, you take the full hit.
From the second fight on, some attacks are specials. A gold counter word appears between you and the monster. Type it before the bar fills and you stun the monster and hit it back hard. Miss it and the special lands at 1.6 times the damage, and a Ward only soaks half of it before it shatters.
Each spell you cast without a typo adds to your Focus meter. Fill it and the Bolt card glows gold: your next Bolt is a critical that does two and a half times the damage, with a proper explosion to go with it. On Standard a full meter stays full until you use it. On Advanced a single typo empties it.
Between fights you recover 30% of your health. A full run takes two to four minutes.
Spellbound makes you switch between short, medium and long words under a bit of pressure, and it rewards clean typing over panicked typing, a habit that carries straight over to a normal typing test.
No. A spell casts the moment you finish its word. Space and Enter are ignored, and Backspace fixes a letter if you need it.
Spell words are one or two letters longer, monsters wind up about 20% faster and hit harder, and any typo empties your Focus meter.
You score a point for every point of damage you deal, plus bonuses for blocks, counters and each foe beaten. Beating the dragon adds a bonus for the health you have left.
