You sit in a little boat above a quiet patch of sea. Fish drift past below with words on their backs, and every word you type puts one in your catch log.
The screen is a slice of the sea: your boat on the surface, sunbeams and kelp below, sand at the bottom. Every fish that swims through carries a word. Type the first letter and that fish lights up, slows down to nibble, and your line starts to sink toward it. Each letter you type pulls the hook a little closer. Finish the word and the fish is hooked and reeled up into the boat, and a card pops into your catch log with its species, its length in centimetres and the points it scored.
No two fish on screen start with the same letter, so you always know which one you are after. Backspace fixes a letter and Escape lets go of the fish you picked.
Jellyfish carry words too, but typing one tangles your line and takes five seconds off the clock. Sharks show a ring on their tag that slowly runs out. Type the shark's word in time and it turns away; leave it and it charges, scattering every fish nearby.
A catch is worth more the deeper and bigger the fish is. Every word you finish without a typo adds to your streak, and the streak multiplies each catch by up to two. The session lasts two minutes on Standard. Advanced gives you ninety seconds, faster fish, longer words and more jellyfish.
Deep Catch is the unhurried one. What it trains is rhythm, picking a target, typing it cleanly and moving on to the next, and that steady habit does more for your speed in a normal typing test than frantic bursts do.
No. A fish is hooked the moment you finish its word. Spaces are ignored unless you are typing the Moonfin's two-word phrase.
The session is 90 seconds instead of 120, fish swim about a third faster, words are one letter longer, jellyfish and sharks turn up more often, a tangle costs seven seconds and a typo makes the fish you are after dart away.
Each species has a base value that grows with depth. Longer words and bigger fish add to it, and your clean-word streak multiplies the total. Shooing a shark away earns a small bonus.
