Keybridge: a typing game where your words become the bridge

Every correct key lays a keycap with that letter on it, and Space lays a spacebar. Behind you the bridge is falling into the mist, so keep typing, pick up the creatures stranded on rock pillars, and get them to the next island before the collapse catches the back of the line.

How to play Keybridge

  1. Each correct key lays a keycap at the end of the bridge, and Space lays a spacebar. You are the builder at the front.
  2. The bridge is falling away behind you, faster every crossing. If the collapse reaches you, the run is over.
  3. Creatures on rock pillars hop on as you pass and follow you. Bring them to the next island to score, but a long line has a tail near the fall.
  4. A slip shakes a key loose at the back. Golden words pay a bonus if you type them cleanly.

How it plays

You start on a rock island at the edge of a chasm. The words you need to type are drawn as outlines on the path ahead, and the card at the top shows the current word large with the next few after it. Each correct letter turns its outline into a solid keycap and moves you one step forward. Spaces between words are spacebars, a little wider than the rest.

A moment after you set off, the bridge starts to fall away from the back. The collapse moves at a steady pace, so as long as you type faster than it falls, you pull ahead. It speeds up at every island, and from the third crossing a rumble now and then makes it surge for a few seconds.

Rescues and the line behind you

Keycap creatures are stranded on rock pillars in the chasm. When the bridge passes over one, it hops up and joins the line following you. Reach the next island and everyone in the line is safe, worth 25 points each plus 5 for every crossing so far. The catch is that each creature makes the line longer, and the back of a long line is close to the collapse. If the fall reaches a creature, it floats off on a balloon and is lost. If it reaches you, the bridge is gone and the run ends.

Slips, golden words and clean crossings

A wrong key does not lay anything: you simply type the right one. But every slip shakes a key loose at the back of the bridge, bringing the collapse a little closer. From the second crossing one word on each stretch is golden, worth 20 points if you type it without a slip, and a whole crossing with no slips earns 50 more. Every letter you lay is a point.

Why it helps your typing

Keybridge rewards a steady, sustainable pace more than short sprints. Islands slow the collapse down, so the best players use them to read the next stretch before setting off again. Because mistakes cost distance, it quietly trains the habit that matters most for speed: typing cleanly.

Questions people ask

What is a good score in Keybridge?

Reaching the fifth crossing with most of your creatures safe is a solid run, usually five or six hundred points. Steady typists who keep their slips low can pass the tenth crossing and score well over two thousand.

Do I need to press Backspace after a mistake?

No. A wrong key lays nothing, so just type the right one. The only cost is that the slip shakes a key loose at the back of the bridge.

Who are the creatures on the bridge?

The one at the front is your own Presspace character, dressed the way you dressed it. The stranded ones wear items from the same wardrobe, including some you may not have unlocked yet.
