A road winds across a meadow to your castle, and everything walking along it carries a word. Type the word and your archers loose a volley at it. Let it through and your gate takes the hit.

How to play Siege

  1. Enemies walk the road to your gate carrying words. Type a word and the archers on the gate towers fire at it. Esc or Backspace lets go of a target.
  2. Knights carry a shield word before their body word. Every fifth wave the Warlord brings three.
  3. Between waves, type a tower's word to buy it with gold: Fire burns letters off the next enemy, Frost slows everything near the gate, Volley hits a second enemy.
  4. Anything that reaches the gate damages it. Press Enter in the build phase to start the next wave early for bonus gold.

How a wave works

Each wave sends a column of enemies up the road from the edge of the woods. Every one has a word floating over its head. Type the first letter of any word to target that enemy, and every correct letter after that sends an arrow arcing over from the gate towers. Finish the word and a full volley takes it down. The enemy closest to the gate is always the one to worry about, so its label starts pulsing red as it gets near.

A wrong letter is marked in red and breaks your streak, but you keep your target and can carry on. Esc or Backspace drops the target if you want to switch.

Know your enemies

  • Scouts are quick and carry short words.
  • Knights hold a shield. The first word breaks it, the second finishes the knight.
  • Bats ignore the road and fly straight at the gate, so they arrive sooner than you expect.
  • Siege rams are slow, carry long words and hit the gate harder than anything else.
  • The Warlord turns up every fifth wave with three words of armour and enough weight to shake the ground.

Building towers

Kills earn gold, and holding a wave earns a bonus. Between waves there is a short build phase where three stone pads beside the road light up, each with a word and a price. Type the word to build. Fire towers throw a firepot whenever you kill something, burning letters off the next enemy in line. Frost towers chill the ground around the gate so everything on the last stretch slows down. Volley towers fire at a second enemy after your words, knocking off shields or finishing small fry. Each tower has three levels, and the gate itself can be mended for a growing price.

You do not have to wait out the build timer. Press Enter to start the next wave straight away, and every second you skip is paid back in gold.

Standard and Advanced

On Advanced the words are a letter longer, enemies move about a fifth faster, you start with less gold and a typo lets your target lurch forward. Waves get longer and denser either way, so every run ends when the gate falls. Most runs last two to four minutes.

Questions people ask

Do I need to press space after each word?

No. An enemy is hit the moment you type the last letter of its word. Space is ignored, so you can type word after word without stopping.

What happens if two enemies have words starting with the same letter?

Your first letter targets the one closest to the gate. Enemies on screen at the same time usually start with different letters, so this rarely matters.

How is the score worked out?

Every word you finish scores ten points a letter, multiplied by your clean streak, plus a bonus for each kill. Holding a wave adds fifty points per wave number, and a hundred more if nothing touched the gate.
